Hope Community Health Center was founded by Dr. Cristina (Cris) Medrano, MD, to serve people in Champaign County who have trouble accessing basic primary healthcare services. This includes those without insurance, those with Medicaid who cannot access care at local clinics, those who cannot get timely appointments for acute illnesses at Frances Nelson Health Center (Champaign County's federally qualified health center), and individuals who cannot get timely appointments at the Mental Health Center of Champaign County.
Dr. Medrano received her training at Southern Illinois University, Department of General Surgery, and is now an independent physician living in Champaign, IL. The Hope Community Health Center Board of Directors includes David Whitehill, MD (Carle Clinic Association), Robert Woodward, MD (Independent physician in Champaign), Margaret Stanton (Social Worker in Champaign) and Rachel Maehr (Social Worker in Champaign). The background and experience of Hope's organizers establish it as a healthcare and social service agency that addresses the complex needs of its clients.
